After 60 years within the downtown McAllen area at 601 N. Main St., the Old Main Library closed its doorways on November 23, 2011. Ready for a brand new home, new appearance, and new route, McAllen Public Library relocated to its present-day vicinity at 4001 N. Twenty-third St. On December 10, 2011.

Now an award-triumphing public library, the brand new McAllen Public Library is 123,000 square feet and might thoroughly be the most important unmarried floor public library inside the kingdom. The subsequent largest is the Johnson County Central Resource Library in Overland Park, Kansas, at ninety,547 square toes.
