The men and women of your excursion construct the first settlements. Fortunately, the yet uninhabited land is wealthy in natural assets. You build roads and new settlements that ultimately emerge as cities. Will you succeed in gaining supremacy on Catan? Barter change dominates the scene. Some assets you’ve got in abundance, and other assets are scarce. Ore for wool, brick for lumber – you exchange consistent with what is wanted for your cutting-edge construction projects. Proceed strategically! If you determined your settlements in the right places and assuredly change your resources, then the percentages may be in your favor. But your warring parties are smart too.
First published in Germany in 1995 as “Die Siedler von Catan”, then in English as “The Settlers of Catan” in 1996, CATAN celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2020.
To start the sport, we construct the sport board using hexagonal terrain tiles. Catan is born – a lovely island with mountains, pastures, hills, fields, and forests, surrounded by way of the sea.
Each folk located two small houses on spaces where three terrain hexes meet. They are our beginning settlements.
And so it begins. I roll dice. An “eleven”! Each terrain hex is marked with a die roll quantity. Each player who owns an agreement adjoining to a terrain hex marked with the variety rolled receives an aid produced through this hex. Hills produce brick, forests produce lumber, mountains produce ore, fields produce grain, and pastures produce wool.
We use those resources to expand throughout Catan: we construct roads and new settlements, or we improve our current settlements into cities. For instance, an avenue prices 1 brick and 1 lumber. If we do now not have the important assets, we are able to collect them by way of buying and selling with our combatants.
Each agreement is worth 1 victory point and each town is worth 2 victory points. If you extend cleverly, you’ll be the first player to attain 10 victory points and for this reason, win the sport!
